How We Work

Resource One is a community-oriented conflict management practice. We help individuals, freelancers, and owner-operated small businesses reach wise resolutions to their disputes. We value simplicity, craftsmanship, and integrity.

We take privacy seriously

We see privacy as vital to both dignity and autonomy. Invasions of privacy can have far-reaching consequences for individuals and for society. As guardians of some of our clients' most sensitive information, we're acutely aware of our responsibility to treat this information with the respect it deserves. We strive to ensure confidential client information is protected to the fullest extent of the law.

Our systems and procedures were designed from the ground up with client confidentiality in mind. All applicable communications are protected by solicitor-client privilege. Client files are secured using AES and never uploaded to a server. Our website contains no cookies or trackers. Our email servers are located in Iceland. We enable and encourage our clients to make use of decentralized secure protocols for all communications with us.

Our community defines us

At Resource One we aim to build long-lasting relationships with clients who have similar values to our own and to help those clients deal with their disputes as they arise. To stay accessible we offer client meetings outside of traditional working hours. To encourage our clients to always feel comfortable to reach out to us with their challenges we never charge consultation fees.

We understand the definition of success can vary substantially depending on each individual client's objectives, values and risk tolerance. We work together with each client to help craft custom solutions aligned with their own distinct interests.

Studies in game theory consistently demonstrate the power of the simplest strategies in achieving superior results. We aim to be direct, clear, and concise in our advice, negotiations and argument.

Staying at the centre of the circle provides us with a position of strength. By resting on integrity as our foundation we gain stability. We see sophistication in patience and wisdom in balance.

A well informed client can help us achieve an outcome more closely aligned with their goals. Developing in our clients a solid understanding of the process, rules and available options associated with their disputes is an integral part of our ability to assist them in arriving at wise outcomes.

We provide easy to understand materials and keep open lines of communication in an effort to aid our clients gain a deeper awareness of their rights, identify risks, and understand probabilities at key points in the dispute resolution process.

We get tech

We have a healthy respect for technology, which is why we use it selectively. We understand we can either control the computers around us, or be controlled by them. We never use AI in any of our research, case analysis or document production. We store all of our client files locally.

How we charge

We offer a variety of straightforward, fair, easy to understand pricing structures designed to fit our clients' needs. Payment plans can be arranged if required. In select situations we may be able to work on contingency.

FAQ
Is Resource One a law firm?

Technically yes, but we feel this label isn't an accurate representation of what we do. We see ourselves as negotiators, educators and strategists. Resource One's ability to litigate is a single tool in our toolbox. Maslow famously stated that "If you see all problems as a nail, the only solution is a hammer." We understand all disputes aren't nails and so don't like to hold ourselves out as a hammer. The hammer just stays in the toolbox in case we need it.

How do I become a client?

Resource One is currently accepting clients by referral only. If you've been referred to us, get in touch via email, XMPP or Signal Private Messenger and we'll get back to you shortly.

Do you accept limited scope retainers? / Will you write a demand letter for me?

No. Resource One only takes on disputes in their entirety, never piecemeal. Prior to opening our doors we gave serious consideration to if we would offer unbundled services but decided against it. We deeply respect those who are able to offer these types of services as we believe offering limited scope retainers expands access to justice. Ultimately however, we determined offering our services piecemeal does a disservice to our clients, in that it dilutes the quality of service we're able to provide and the assurances we can offer.

On the other hand, if you've received a demand letter from Resource One, we advise you to take it seriously. Receiving a demand letter from us means we've already been instructed to pursue the remedy outlined, and you should expect us to do so aggressively.
